SO, HOW MUCH WASTES WE ARE GENERATING?
According to a report published by WWF-Malaysia, post-consumer plastic waste generation in Malaysia is estimated to be more than 1 million tonnes annually.
As of 2020 study commissioned by WWF, Malaysia has the highest annual per capita plastic use, at 16.78 kg per person compared to China, Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam. Despite the government's revelations on the shocking figures of waste generated each year, the recycling rate of post-consumption plastic packaging among Malaysians is still relatively low.Â
Plastics can in fact be reused and recycled into usable products. However, 81% of the material value of plastics is lost due to failure to recover the materials or making it's way entering the ocean yearly.Â

PLASTIC IN LANDFILLS
81% of ocean plastics are emitted from Asia. The fact that a disproportionate amount of plastic pollution comes from Asia is consistent with previous research in Year 2021.
Malaysia was ranked TOP 2 - the most plastic release in ocean country in Asia.
